Building to Thrive…What’s in a Name?
What’s in a name?
Little girls, maybe even boys, dream about what they will name their future children. (I will have to ask my boys about that…) Names have meaning and power. Names can help define who you are. Names help you know where you belong. Names are part of your identity.
So as I was praying, thinking, asking, digging for a name that was full of meaning for me and the community I want to serve, I took it seriously.
Walk along with me as I bring you down the path of the decision…
BUILD
One of my life verses is Proverbs 14:1.
“The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish pulls it down with her hands.”
I use this verse daily to remind myself that I want to wisely BUILD my house instead of foolishly tearing it down with my own hands. I wear a bracelet that has BUILD etched into it as a physical reminder. There are days, more than I care to admit, that I have to touch my wrist and shut my mouth. So the base of the name had to be built on that word.
ING
Have you noticed that you can’t have an “ing” without action? Running, jumping, singing, eating, watching, building. We have a choice each and every day to take positive ACTION to move us closer to who we want to be.
TO
It is not my practice to look up words like “to” but it can be enlightening. It reads, “expressing motion in the direction of (a particular location). ; approaching or reaching (a particular condition). Do you see a theme evolving?
THRIVE
I believe that God created each one of us to thrive but sometimes we limit ourselves by fear. Fear of failure. Fear of rejection by our peers. Fear of success.
So I am putting fear aside and sharing here at Building to Thrive. It is a space where I pray you can come and be inspired to be your best YOU. That will happen when you take action. You can have deep health through nutrition, fitness, and building healthy relationships with man and God. Can you imagine waking up each day as excited as a kid on Christmas morning to find out what the day will hold? Let’s do it!
